CHANGING WAY OF RO PLANT OPERATION
The DO-HS cleaning method offers a novel approach for the RO
membrane reliable operation. RO membrane will be kept continuously
clean by preventive, short and frequent membrane backwash. DO-HS
process is the on-line technique without interruption of the
operational process unlike widely used CIP technique, which requires
shut-down operational train to perform membranes cleaning and disposal
of aggressive solutions. The DO-HS is the environmental and membrane
friendly, technique, which is performed on-line, at low cost. Process
can be easily applied to the operational facility as well as to be
designed for the new project.
Two scenarios of the RO plant operation are presented below.
Conventional "A" scenario of the RO plant operation includes:
- Operation with decline in the water production.
- Increase in power consumption, pressure drop, product conductivity, and membrane replacement rate.
- Several conventional cleanings per year, with expenses of the
cleaning chemicals, production losses during cleaning time, and losses
related to the disposal of the cleaning solutions.
The novel "B" scenario of the RO plant operation includes:
- One or several automatic preventive DO-HS cleanings a day.
- Productivity, power consumption, product quality kept at a designed point.
- Membrane replacement rate is low.
